FIRE AND PUBLIC WORKS RECEIVE SAFETY GRANT

Shelbyville Receives Safety Grant for the Fire Department and Public Works Department

“We use every opportunity to make our city safer,” said Mayor Hardesty referring to the $3,000 that the City of Shelbyville was recently awarded by the Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services (KLCIS).

The grant will be used for Firefighter protective clothing and rescue ropes and Public Works Department received an eye/face wash station and first aid kits. We also were able to purchase 100 traffic cones and safety shoes.

Mayor Hardesty said that, in these uncertain times, grants such as this one are a practical way to make the city’s budget go further, as well as provide products that will enhance public safety.

KLCIS helps members increase public safety with a number of proactive programs and services.

In addition to Shelbyville, 121 other KLCIS members received safety grants. A total of $250,000 was awarded in this year’s Safety Grant Program. The awarded funds will go toward training, replacement equipment for playgrounds, law enforcement accreditation fees, and other equipment to improve public and employee safety, as well as the purchase of classes through the LKCIS Online University.

“Member cities are our stockholders,” said Neil Hackworth, KLC Deputy Executive Director/Acting Executive Director. “The success of our insurance and finance programs allows us to reinvest in communities with services like the safety grants.”

KLCIS provides safety grants to its members annually. As Kentucky’s largest municipal insurance program, LKCIS provides a full range of affordable liability, property, workers’ comp and other products to municipalities. In addition, the Kentucky League of Cities offers employee benefits programs, financial services, training and education, policy and development, legislative advocacy, information technology and legal services.
